The Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida announces HISTORY ROCKS! Summer Camp - History Through the Eyes of a Child. AUGUST 5–9, 9 a.m. -12:00 p.m. $60 or $50 Museum Members (Pre-registration Required). Little Indians - Monday Join us to learn about the early people of the Panhandle. What did they eat? How did they live? Where did they come from? What were the lives of the young Indians like? We will learn about the Indians that lived here before the first European explorers arrived. Come explore Northwest Florida in a different way, through the eyes of a Native child. Youngster Pioneers - Tuesday Experience the life of a pioneer child. Did these children attend school every weekday like you? What were their responsibilities to the family? Did they have any free time? What games did they play? We will go through a typical day of a pioneer child to learn more about them. Skip into the past to see the life of the pioneers. Growin' up Fishin'- Wednesday Come with us back to the early 1900's in Northwest Florida. What effect did the surrounding waterways have on the lives of the first families to come to this area? How did these people survive? What would your life be like as a child during this time? Learn about the fishing industry and the effect it had the local community. We will be ''fishing'' for knowledge about our areas fishing industry. Kids! Diggin' in the Dirt - Thursday Where do the artifacts from museums come from? What is the difference between an artifact and a fossil? Learn about the process that archaeologist go through to get their artifacts and fossils. Use some of the same tools that a real scientist would use to excavate a site. Get ready to get dirty on this backyard excavation adventure! Be A Curator - Friday What is involved in running a museum? Did you ever wonder why some old things are called artifacts and others are considered useless? Live the life of a curator for a day.
