Description
Open auditions for the Northwest Florida State College summer musical production of the farce "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" will be held Monday, May 2, at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus of the college. Sign-in is at 6:00 pm and auditions begin at 6:30 pm. The May 2 auditions will be held in the Art Wing, (building 110, Room 328), of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center and are open to all. (Individuals do not have to participate in the April 30 Audition Workshop in order to audition).
All those who audition should prepare a 16-bar musical theatre selection (from a work other than Forum). Director Christa Whittaker notes that “A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to The Forum” includes a lot of slapstick and physical comedy, and that movement, basic combat and tumbling skills will be a bonus. Whittaker describes “A Funny Thing Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” as Broadway's greatest farce that is witty and irreverent. “Think Benny Hill meets The Three Stooges meets Commedia Del’arte,” she noted. The cast will include 22 to 25 roles. For a web link on Whittaker’s dramaturgy on the show see www.nwfsc.edu/faculty/profiles/ribando-jeremy/ForumDramturgy_CW.docx
